Hi, my name is Shannon. My role includes supporting Johno and the students in all aspects of bike restoration.
I have a Master of Sport Business and Certificate 4 in Mental Health. My experience includes working at MATES in Construction, where I was a suicide prevention trainer and I supported workers who were finding life a challenge. I have also held a position as a VCAL Coordinator at Box Hill Institute of TAFE. The role included Student Support via developing career pathways and mentoring at risk students. I also worked at Open House (a Not for Profit for disadvantaged children/youth). Previously, I worked at the Juvenile Justice Centre, Parkerville with troubled youth, running sports recreational programs.
I enjoy encouraging the students to achieve their goals in this program and in life. I also like seeing young people making wise choices.
I like the way the young people are committed each week to the task at hand and to see their amazing bikes at the end of the program. I think this program challenges the young people in many ways. For me, I think it is fantastic that the young people are required to donate their first bike to someone else.
